Mohawk's Sacred Star in the color Egg Nog (#1326-515) starts out in this delicious light beige — a neutral tone that Ricko the Rhino preferred himself.
In preparation for this "ultimate test" of Mohawk SmartStrand Carpeting made with DuPont Sorona renewably sources polymer, the Black Rhinoceros at The Birmingham Zoo was presented with three test swatches. Ultimately, it became apparent that Ricko preferred a light neutral like Sacred Star in the color Egg Nog (#1326-515).
The 1½-ton beast doesn't have the best eyesight, but his senses were keen enough to let Mohawk know he did not like darker hues in green or brown.
Working closely with Ricko's caretakers, the carefully controlled testing assured that rhino coexisted well with the carpeting in his enclosure. Such careful monitoring allowed Ricko's non-verbal responses to the carpet samples to best determine which carpet style he preferred.
Professional installers will carpet the entire 1,040-square-foot enclosure. The Black Rhino, who enjoys mudbaths during the summer, will come in and live on SmartStrand, trudging dirt, mud and muck onto the carpeting. Then we will clean it, using Mohawk FloorCare Essentials Carpet Stain Remover — the exact same carpet you can purchase at participating Floorscapes, ColorCenter and Floorz retailers.
